The Simpsons star Jackie Mason dies after 2-week hospital stay

Actor and comedian Jackie Mason has died at the aged of 93 following a two-week hospital stay.

The comic, who played Krusty’s dad in The Simpsons, died at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York. His wife Jyll and a few friends were by his side.

There will be an intimate private funeral service in New York said longtime friend Raoul Felder, who confirmed the star had sadly passed away.

A public memorial service is expected to take place at a later date for fans of the late star.

Speaking to the New York Post, Felder said: “We shall never see his like again. This was a mold that was broken,” the star’s emotional pal stated to The New York Post.

“We’re going to miss him.”

Jackie is understood to have been hospitalised two weeks ago.

Comedian Jackie had some hilarious one-liners over the years. One of them was “80 per cent of married men cheat in America. The rest cheat in Europe.”

Another of his famous quips was: “Politics doesn’t make strange bedfellows, marriage does.”

Jackie was ranked at number 63 on Comedy Central’s 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time.

The star’s one-man show in 1986, titled The World According To Me, won a Special Tony Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, an Ace Award, an Emmy Award, and a Grammy nomination

His 1988 special Jackie Mason on Broadway won another Emmy Award for outstanding writing.

Jackie also scooped an Emmy Award for his fleeting role on The Simpsons. Jackie played Krusty the Clown’s dad, Rabbi Hyman Krustofski, on the programme in 1991.

He wrote and performed six one-man shows on Broadway in total.

Jackie was born Yacov Moshe Hakohen Maza in 1928 (according to a New York census). He was the fourth and last son in a family of six children to Orthodox Jews.

He came from a long line of rabbis, which included his father, his grandfather, his great-grandfather, and his great-great grandfather.
