BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood recalls live TV moment she'll never live down

BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood has spoken frankly about one of her most embarrassing TV moments to date, as she recalled the time she accidentally used the word “dogging” live on air.

Carol, 58, has worked for the BBC for an incredible 25 years but in a recent interview the weather forecaster described the “horrendous” on-air blunder that still leaves her rather red-faced.

Last year, Carol mistakenly made a very crude comment which left her BBC Breakfast colleagues and viewers at home in stitches.

Talking about the incident in detail, the weather reporter giggled: “My most recent worse one was my dogging one. I’ll never live that one down as long as I live.”

She added: “That was awful and it came about so innocently!”

During the time the on air blunder took place, Carol was reporting on location from Greenwich Park early one morning in August.

Speaking confidently to audiences at home and to the presenters in the studio, the meteorologist described her surroundings.

But as she began going into detail about the people she’s seen in the park, she accidentally slipped up and merged the words dog walkers and joggers.

While reporting, Carol mistakenly said: “The sun is beating down, we’ve seen lots of doggers.”

Realising her mishap, the presenter quickly explained: “Not doggers of course, lots of dog walkers and joggers around here!”

In her recent interview Carol revealed that she doesn’t have any autocue when reporting on location.

Despite this, she admitted that she practiced a number times with her camera man before they went on air.

She explained: “I don’t even have a monitor on location so everything is done from memory and I use cue words to alert the gallery in Salford to know that I’m cueing the graphics.”

The weather forecaster also cringed at the fact she said the word “dogging” twice and was surprised that the clip quickly went viral around the world.

Soon after the humiliating moment took place, Carol headed to Twitter to apologise to her 181,700 followers.

The weather presenter penned: “That will teach me to try and say joggers and dog walkers in the same sentence!!! Sorry! xxx.”

Replying to her apology, BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker said: “Reasons to love Carol number 472 #Joggers,” while insisting no one noticed.

Of course we didn’t Dan.
