With a highly-anticipated 19th series, Robert Webb will joins AJ Odudu and Tom Fletcher next month on BBC 2’s Strictly Come Dancing.

BBC announced that the glitter-ball has finally been dusted off and ready to be lit up for the autumn, marking a return to the show slightly later than its usual premier date, due to a change in the judging line-up.

Not only will pro-dancer Anton Du Beke step in as a judge, replacing Bruno Tonioli, but Strictly bosses have also confirmed new pro dancers to join the competition.

Meanwhile, comedian Robert Webb has been polishing his dancing shoes as he claimed that he could not “wait to get packed into a spandex onesie”.

Robert Webb tragically lost his mother to breast cancer at age 17

Making people laugh is an art Robert has developed for the most part of his life, however, this skill took a major turn when he was faced with family tragedy.

Who is Robert Webb?

He was born in Boston, Lincolnshire on September 29, 1972 and grew up in Woodhall Spa near Horncastle.

Growing up on a council estate while attending Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Horncastle, Robert became quickly interested in comedy as he would watch sitcoms such as The Young Ones, Blackadder, and Only Fools and Horses.

His enthusiasm for the shows translated into a newfound passion for drama and poetry, resulting in writing parodies while in school.

As a teenager, Robert dealt with serious obstacles in his family home.

Moreover, he purposely lost his Lincolnshire accent at age 13, as a result of strong resentment towards his father, who by then was divorced from his mother.

When he was 17, the comedian’s mother passed away from breast cancer, forcing him to move in with his dad and re-sitting his A-levels.

Nevertheless, Robert’s spirits remained high despite facing these challenging events, and went on to study English at Robinson College, Cambridge, as well as becoming vice-president of the Footlights, an amateur theatrical club.

It was at this time that he met David Mitchell, who would turn out to be his co-act in Mitchell and Webb, a BAFTA-winning comedy double act featured on Channel 4.

The 48-year-old personality has since appeared in various comedy programs on TV such as That Mitchell and Webb Look, and even in the movie, Magicians which was released in 2007.

He has been starring alongside his comedy partner in Channel’s 4, Back since 2017.

The comedian might not be a trained dancer, but Strictly fans can expect to get a good laugh from his participation in the contest.
