Taking place on the 10th and 11th August 1996, Oasis’ record breaking nights at Knebworth, Hertfordshire saw over a quarter of a million music fans from all over the world attend.

At the time, tickets were released on 11th May 1996 but was sold out in less than 24 hours, breaking every UK box office record in the process. Not only this but over 2% of the UK population attempted to purchase a ticket to attend the highly anticipated event.

The Knebworth concert took place at time where the UK was slowly recovering from a decade of recession. The mood of the nation was evidently changing and Brit Pop was beginning to birth new stars.

Oasis certainly rode this wave and managed to embody a new found optimism and swagger.

The band had fans around the world captivated

Noel and Liam who originate from Manchester were living relatively normal lives in their council estate two years prior before the concert took place, but quickly became one of the greatest bands in the world shortly after.

The band played some of their most loved songs during the event too including songs like ‘Champagne Supernova’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and ‘Live Forever’.

Oasis held the record for the largest audience at Knebworth for a number of years until 2003, when Robbie Williams played a total of three nights at the same venue and brought in a crowd of 375,000.

Despite this, Oasis still managed to beat rock legends like Queen and Led Zeppelin, who had previously played at Knebworth during the 70s and 80s.

In 2003, Robbie Williams managed to beat the band’s record

In the late 2000’s Oasis decided to part ways after years of turmoil and a fractured relationship between Liam and Noel.

In 2013, Noel expressed to Rolling Stones magazine that he didn’t want to be a part of anything to do with the legendary band anymore.

He explained: “We are split up. You’ve heard that, haven’t you? You must’ve heard… Yeah, so, ergo, band splits up, band is no more. There is no band. So, no, I won’t be getting involved, anyway. If there is a reunion, I won’t be in it.”

But two years later, he appeared to have a change of heart and offered hope to fans who had been eagerly waiting for the band to reunite.

Speaking to Chris Moyles in 2015, Noel said: “One should never say never, should one look like a bit of an idiot somewhere down the road, when you’re waving a cheque for a quarter of a billion in The Sun!

The cinematic documentary will be the first project that the pair have embarked on together since 2009.
