BBC Breakfast viewers stunned as stable owner reveals X-rated horse nickname

BBC Breakfast viewers thought they were hearing things on Friday, as a segment on horseflies turned X-rated.

Jayne McCubbin was presenting a segment via video link about the biting pests, and sharing some rather gruesome images of horsefly bites as she did so.

But, while appearing at a stables on the Wirral, Jayne went along to chat to horse owner Helen, whose mare had fallen ill after being bitten by a horsefly – and things turned rather X-rated for morning TV.

“We’re at Foxes Competition Centre,” Jayne explained. “I want to introduce somebody else now – her name is Vira, but she’s fondly known as Vadge.

“Let me introduce Vadge, and she’s a poorly girl.”

As the segment wore on, Jayne seemed oblivious to the genital implications of Vadge’s nickname, continuing: “These bites are really serious – and if it can do that to a big beast like this, gorgeous girl Vadge, imagine what it can do to a human.”

Fans of the show simply couldn’t believe what they were hearing, flocking to Twitter to post: “Is… is that… did they just say that horse on @BBCBreakfast is called VAG/VADGE?!!?!?”

Someone else responded: “I am asking myself the exact same question.”

Another fan quickly tweeted: “I’m sorry, what? #BBCBreakfast #Vadge,” with others eagerly replying: “I thought I’d misheard!”

“That’s what I heard!” another responded.

Elsewhere in the programme, Naga Munchetty caused a stir as she implied weather presenter Carol Kirkwood always “hides” during her presenting gigs.

Carol doesn’t usually work on BBC Breakfast on Fridays – but had popped up this week to appear at Cammas Hall Farm amongst a field of sunflowers.

Announcing the time, Naga told viewers: “Time now is 26 minutes past six, which means it’s time to talk to Carol – who’s hiding, which is often the case when we’re on this morning, this time of the week!”

Carol shared a giggle with Naga and co-presenter Charlie Stayt on the red sofa, standing in a field full of tall sunflowers.

Naga continued: “But Carol, you are hiding amongst something beautiful!”

Carol appeared on screen to say: “Absolutely right, Naga and Charlie, good morning everyone! I’m at Cammas Hall Farm at the moment, and you can see lots and lots of sunflowers all around me.

“But if we take an aerial shot, we can see just how many there are – there are approximately 100,000 sunflowers in bloom right now, and wow – they look spectacular!” she gushed.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am every day on BBC One.
