Coronation Street fans were left picking their jaws up off the floor on Friday, as they spotted an iconic name from BBC medical soap Casualty.
Fans of the soap were stunned to see Amanda Mealing’s name pop up in the opening credits of Friday night’s episode.
Amanda is best known for playing Connie Beauchamp in both Casualty and Holby City – but she made her Coronation Street debut this week as director.
Immediately flocking to Twitter to share the news, one viewer quickly penned: “Did I see Amanda Mealing’s name directing tonight’s episode? (Connie Beauchamp – Casualty!)”
Someone else followed up: “Tonight’s #Corrie directed by Amanda Mealing – is this the first time or have I missed out?!”
And a third fan tweeted: “Ooh @MeAmandaMealing works behind the camera now on @ITVCorrie!”
“Tonight’s #Corrie episodes are directed by Amanda Mealing, known for playing Connie Beauchamp from #Casualty!” another social media user echoed.
Despite it being her first time on the cobbles, it’s far from Amanda’s directorial debut. She’s also gotten behind the cameras on three episodes of Casualty, as well as directing shows like CBBC Tracy Beaker spin-off The Dumping Ground and two short films – Another Man’s Shoes and Money For Nothing.
And it was a big episode to direct, as fire starter Hope Stape finally had her date in Youth Court facing a charge of arson, after setting fire to Alina and Tyrone’s flat.
Thankfully, the youngster wasn’t handed a custodial sentence, but was told she would have to undergo therapy with additional support at home.
But it’s left some fans with a sour taste, as they predicted further danger for Ty and Alina after they announced their engagement.
“Go on, tell Hope her dad’s engaged! Go on… I dare you!” one fan urged on Twitter.
Another agreed: “When Hope finds out her daddy accidentally got engaged to Alina, keep her away from fire!”
“I just feel like this is just the beginning of Hope’s nonsense,” someone else predicted, accompanied by a raging fire GIF.
A fourth fan quickly warned: “Well ya just know Hope getting off lightly is gonna end in disaster! #Corrie.”
Kelly Neelan was also due in court for the attack on Seb Franklin, with tensions between lawyer Imran Habeeb and the rest of the street rising.
He even brought up Leanne’s late son Oliver when she made a remark about the case.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
