Hugh Jackman posts emotional snap embracing mother who abandoned him as a child

Hugh Jackman, the star of The Greatest Showman, uploaded an Instagram picture that puts his troubled youth behind him.

Hugh, 52, and his four other siblings were abandoned by their mother when she moved back to the UK from Sydney, Australia.

The Wolverine actor’s father raised all five of his children on his own, and Hugh only saw his mother about once a year.

Despite his heartbreaking childhood, Hugh has put the past behind him and embraced his mother as he’s grown up, now the Hollywood actor has posted an adorable picture of him and his mum to his 30million Instagram followers on Monday.

The photo showed Hugh holding his arm around his mother in a tight embrace as both mother and son are looking into each others eyes and smiling from ear to ear.

As Hugh shared the photo of the pair smiling to his 30million followers, he simply captioned the post: “Mum.”

Fans were clearly happy to see the reunion as he received a whopping 500,000 likes on the post.

One fan commented: “She must be such a proud mum!”

Another said, “Awww what a lovely pic of you and your mum love it. Hope you had an amazing and relaxing time catching up with her.”

Some of Hugh’s fans were torn over the post, with many remaining unforgiving, but he most certainly is.

In an interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly, Hugh revealed that despite his difficult childhood, he never felt his mother didn’t love him.

He said: “The thing I never felt – and I know this might sound strange – I never felt that my mum didn’t love me.

“I’ve spoken about it at length with her since and I know she was struggling.

“She was in hospital after I was born suffering from post-natal depression. There wasn’t a support network for her here.”

Although Hugh was shocked by his mother’s abandonment, he hasn’t held a grudge. His mother has since supported his career as an actor.

At the premiere of Wolverine in London in 2013, Hugh asked the audience to stop and applaud his mother for being there to support him.
