Chicago-based rapper Duke Acapela has died aged 25 after he was shot, his manager has confirmed.
His manager, of Kush Entertainment Records explained how they were supposed to be filming a music video, adding that he wants to be told that it is a “dream”.
He wrote: “I can’t take this pain… your sis told me you fought hard till ur last breath thank u for dat[sic].”
Duke Acapela’s manager continued: I promise to God I’m gonna keep your name and music alive, I promise!”
The news comes shortly after rumours spread on Monday that the artist had been shot and killed, though this was denied by his management.
At the time, he said: “Hang in there gang keep breathing, need everyone to pray for Duke Acapela, he needs y’all right now.”
As speculation of his death continued, his manager added: “Don’t believe s**t he’s still breathing let’s keep praying.”
The star is also known by the name ‘Lil Duke’ and is known for his tracks including Cold Hearted, Love Me and Broken.
Duke has over 12,000 subscribers on YouTube and 15,000 followers on Instagram, and posted his last photos four days ago, which fans have flooded with tributes.
Commenting on his photo, one user wrote: “Wow bro no.”
Another person said: “Living legend, gone too soon,” while another added: “Damn I hope this isn’t true.”
Alongside his 12,000 YouTube followers, Duke shared that he had hit 10million views on YouTube as more and more people were reaching his music.
He had discussed in one of his recent Instagram posts that his recent song had been his favourite one that he had released, writing alongside the video: “Hands down one of my favourite songs by me, no cap, I’m finna turn back up for y’all All Gas No Brakes[sic].”
His followers were quick to show their support for the track as they praised the aspiring musician for his successful song, hitting 21,000 views on Instagram.
His most popular snog was titled Oh My, which was released 2 years ago and received a whopping 718,000 views on YouTube.
