Hitmaker Elton John has been good friends with fellow red-haired pop singer Ed Sheeran for a number of years.
So it was no surprise that the Shape Of You singer, 30, wanted to honour the artists 74th birthday in style with an extra special gift.
But fans were surprised to hear what the Halifax native had in store for his mentor as the Tiny Dancer performer candidly revealed Ed’s “generous” gift during an interview with Hit 109.9’s Carrie and Tommy Show.
As he sat down for a quick chat with the co-hosts Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, the doting dad revealed Ed had sent a “beautifully made, giant marble penis” to his house to honour mark his milestone celebration.
He told listeners: “For my birthday this year, he gave me a giant marble penis. I don’t know if that’s because I’ve always been a p***k or what. It’s really big, it’s beautifully made.”
The star initially wanted to place the enormous ornament out in the garden but his husband David Furnish refused on the grounds that their two children Zachary, 10, and Elijah, eight, were too young to be asking questions about it.
Elton joked: “It’s hidden in an area in the house where they wouldn’t see it!”
This comes after Ed revealed how Elton helped revitalise his wardrobe with a fresh pop of colour and well-tailored garments.
Ed admitted: “I’d gone to stay with Elton John, and he was like, ‘Darling, every time you’ve come out for an album campaign you’ve looked dreadful. Let me put you in touch with Donatella Versace, and she will dress you.’”
He added: “I basically got this bright pink suit, an amazing shirt – it was the first time I’d properly been styled!”
When asked about Ed’s latest fashion choices, Elton confirmed: “That’s true. I said. ‘Ed – you’ve worn the baggy shirts and the trousers, it’s got you so far but it’s now time to make a change.’
“I said, ‘Listen – if you’re making the Bad Habits video, you’ve got to look great.
“He loves it, it’s not as if I’m forcing him to anything he doesn’t want to do.”
And fans have definitely noticed his new fashion choices as he debuted the new look in his latest music video Bad Habits where the fiery red-head rocked the Fushia suit as he portrayed the role of a high-fashion vampire.
The pair first started working together in 2011 when Ed was first starting out in the early days of his music career after he signed with Sir Elton’s management company Rocket Music.
After seven years, Ed left the company on amicable terms when his manager Stuart Camp went solo and have remained close friends ever since.
