'Gutted' Vernon Kay forced to pull out of This Morning debut after catching Covid

Vernon Kay has been forced to cancel his presenting debut on This Morning after contracting Covid.

The TV star, 47, had been set to host the popular ITV chat show for the first time tomorrow alongside Rochelle Humes during the final week of the holidays.

However, the presenter will no longer be able to appear in the hosting seat next week as he will have to self-isolate at home in order to follow the government’s Covid rules.

It has since been reported that ITV presenter Eamonn Holmes will step in to replace Vernon and Alison Hammond on the show next week, after confirming that both Vernon and Alison were off sick.

It comes soon after famous TV couple Eamonn and his co-star and wife Ruth Langsford had been filling in for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby over the summer.

Speaking to The Sun, Vernon admitted that he is “absolutely gutted” that he’s unable to present the show next week.

He told the outlet: “I’m absolutely gutted that because of a positive Covid test I’m no longer able to present on This Morning next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright’s cover, two iconic shows which I’ve been a fan of for decades.

It comes not long after Vernon had been due to take his teen daughter to Reading festival over the weekend, however it is not certain whether he actually attended the event.

Vernon had told the Daily Mail that Reading Festival had been his first ever festival, so he was excited to chaperone his daughter at Reading this weekend.

He said: “Phoebe is 16 and her first festival will be Reading.

“It was my first festival, too, and everything that goes on at a festival went on and it was quite daunting. So I’m going with her.”

Eamonn revealed that both Vernon and Alison Hammond were unable to present the show as they were both off sick.

Taking to Twitter to announce that he’s stepping in for Vernon and Alison to host the show alongside Rochelle next week, he said: “But just when u thought you’d got rid of me …. sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I’m off the bench.

“Get well soon to them but I have my Boots on and I’m ready to play . Monday and Tues line up is now myself and @RochelleHumes. Hope you can join us.

Vernon’s co-star Rochelle, 32, recently spoke about her excitement at hosting This Morning alongside Vernon.

The singer said: “I’m so looking forward to hosting with the wonderful Alison Hammond again. I also can’t wait to welcome Vernon Kay into the This Morning family!”
