Coronation Street’s Nina Lucas, who is played by Mollie Gallagher, has opened up and revealed that she struggled filming the flashback scenes of boyfriend Seb Franklin’s tragic murder.
Seb Franklin, played by Harry Visinoni, was killed back in May after his girlfriend Nina was targeted in a brutal attack, because she was a goth.
Since Seb was killed in the heartbreaking and tragic attack, Nina has been trying hard to remember what exactly happened on that fateful night.
Because of the injuries she sustained, she has found it hard to pinpoint exactly what happened – but since Simon Barlow urged her to remember, she has been trying harder.
Ahead of Corey and Kelly’s court case next week, which will see one or both of the teens convicted for Seb’s murder, Nina remembers what happened in a montage of flashbacks.
The heartbreaking flashbacks, which Mollie revealed were hard to film, will air next week.
The heartbreaking storyline is based on the brutal murder of Sophie Lancaster which happened in 2007.
Sophie died from the severe head injuries she sustained in the attack thirteen days later, while her boyfriend, who was with her at the time, suffered brain damage and struggled with depression too.
Mollie who plays Nina Lucas, Roy Cropper’s niece, has opened up about what it was like to film the tragic flashback scenes, where she said: “It was very hard because it was a reminder of the connection to the Sophie Lancaster story.
“I am only an actor playing a role but this has happened to people in real life and that is heartbreaking.
“It was cold and wet, lying on the floor, and we had to get back into the mindset that we had a few months ago and that was difficult but I am so grateful to be doing this storyline on an issue which is so important to highlight.”
She then revealed: “During the flashback scenes I tried to play it as her having a lot of strength but she is also very vulnerable as well so I tried to find that balance.
“I think she is a great role model because she always wants to do what is right and she is very strong-minded. I’m so grateful to have been given the opportunity to play a character like Nina.”
Explaining that she thought it was “important” to include Nina and Seb’s kiss in the scene so that the viewers could be reminded of the young couple’s love story and sweet relationship.
“It is important to show their relationship to remind viewers of how in love they were, I do think that that was it for them and they would have been together forever,” she said.
“Harry and I had never been that physically close before, even when we were doing the relationship scenes we had always filmed two metres apart.

“Filming the kiss was strange because it was the first time that we had been that close to each other!
“Prior to filming that scene, we had been put in a safety ‘bubble’ and we both took a Covid test beforehand.”
In the episodes that air next week, Nina dresses as the person she was before the attack for the first time.
She wears her goth ensemble in court, to prove to Corey that she isn’t afraid anymore.
“She is very nervous because she wants to do right by Seb,” Mollie said.
“When they are asking her loads of questions she gets confused but all she wants is justice for Seb and closure. Her biggest fear is that justice won’t be done.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
