Bob Mortimer threw his undies at snake to scare it off after surprise encounter

Bob Mortimer chased off a snake in the desert by throwing his underpants at it.

The British comedian stripped to his undies to cool down as he and pal Vic Reeves – real name Jim Moir – made a TV ad. But the pair had a scare when they went scorpion hunting during a break in filming.

Bob, 62, said: “Jim poked a stick in to look under a rock and a snake came out. And I threw my underpants at the snake, just as a reaction, you know, and shouted ‘f***!’”

He added: “Anyway, so we got a certain reputation after that.”

But while speaking to Radio Times, Bob revealed that he will have to see how audiences receive the third series before they film fourth.

The star said: “It’s judging if it’s overstayed its welcome, and I don’t think you can assess that until the series has finished.

“There will be something in the air that tells us, ‘that’s enough’.”

“We just have to judge at what point the public don’t want to join us. We’ll carry on fishing anyway.” Gone Fishing was first broadcast on BBC Two in 2018.”

The fishing programme has proven to be very popular amongst fans and has gone on to be recommissioned every year since it firs started.

In December 2020, the programme showcased an hour-long Christmas special episode.
