Kate Walsh returns to Grey's Anatomy as Addison Montgomery for Season 18

It’s been almost 15 years since Grey’s Anatomy fans saw Addison Montgomery as a series regular and 10 years since her last debut – and after countless pleas from fans to bring her back for Season 18, her return has been confirmed.

Actress Kate Walsh announced she would be reprising her role as Addison Montgomery in an Instagram reel on Friday morning.

In the video, you can see her take part in the Q&A trend, which started with: “Questions I get asked a lot”, before adding: “Will you ever come back to Grey’s Anatomy?” followed by: “Yes.”

She then recorded herself with her white coat firmly back on alongside the voiceover of: “Surprise b***h, I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

Alongside the video she wrote: “It’s really happening. Dr Addison Montgomery will see you shortly.”

Kate has already brought in upwards of 360,000 likes onto the video as thousands of fans took to the comment section to share their excitement over the news.

However – it wasn’t just fans sharing their excitement, as the person behind Grey’s, Shonda Rhimes, wrote: “Welcome home!!!”, before adding: “It’s the lab coat for me.”

Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, was also excited to see her, adding: “Let’s give them what they want, quality TV drama!”

Fans will know that Meredith and Addison had a tricky relationship as Meredith was sleeping with Derek Shephard – who was Addison’s estranged husband at the time.

Over the years, Addison became a subtle supporter of the coupling, even threatening Meredith at one point for letting Derek get away – but will Season 18 bring a strong friendship or undeniable drama?

Whatever it brings, Grey’s Anatomy fans can’t contain their excitement, particularly after a season which has been a hard-hitting watch.

Season 17 saw Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital deal with Covid-19 as one of their own spent most of the season on a ventilator with the virus.

During the series, Jo Wilson (Karev) – who was previously left by Alex Karev – realised that she wanted to change her profession and work in OB.

As she made the decision, fans called for the best OB doctor in the State – Addison Montgomery – to return.

Could Jo and Addison become the best new double team? And even more important, will Addison’s return be the only one, or can we expect to see other fan favourites make a reappearance?

The cast have only recently started filming Season 18, so it’ll be some time until UK fans will be able to watch it on Now TV – but viewers are certainly ready to see their favourites back on screen.
