X Factor's Lucy Spraggan says she 'lived as a boy for eight years' in candid admission

Lucy Spraggan became a household name in 2012 after appearing on the former ITV talent show, The X Factor, instantly winning over the judges and viewers with her original song, Last Night.

The 30-year-old star originally from Kent has been praised in recent years as she documented her dramatic image overhaul which saw her take on an impressive physical challenge and changed her physique.

Lucy has since transformed her life, stopped drinking alcohol and now powers her way through the gym and boasts an enviable six-pack that most dream of.

However, while many fans know Lucy for her fun-loving personality and sensational voice, the singer has reflected on a period of her life that not many will know about.

The singer-songwriter admitted that her family were “sound” with her identifying as Max

In a candid revelation, the singer who grew up in Buxton, Derbyshire, admitted that she was actually from Canterbury, Kent.

She went on to explain that during her younger years, she went by the name of Max before explaining her story.

Lucy said: “I lived as a boy for like maybe eight years of my life.”

The songstress continued: “My family were sound as a pound about it.

“[They] let me shave my hair and wear boxers, they and everyone else called me Max.”

While X-Factor may have given Lucy a huge platform, she became the first contestant in the history of the programme to land a UK Top 40 single and album – all before the live shows had even aired.

She recently went on to add to Daily Star: “I’ve had a weird couple of years, I’ve changed pretty much everything about myself.”

Following her phenomenal performance at Manchester Pride, Lucy reflected on her journey and how she is now in a “different headspace”.

In view of her 169,000 followers, the singer who boasts six UK Top 40 albums shared side by side snaps of herself at the same event, years apart showcasing her transformation.

She said: “Same festival, different headspace.

“I’m not entirely sure I’m sold on when people say ‘trust the process’. I get it in some circumstances, like, when things are out of your control.

“If you’re waiting on a decision for a job interview or hoping that something totally out of your hands is going to go the right way.

“Then absolutely, I’ll trust the process. What else do we do in that situation than apply positive thinking?”

She continued: “Now more than ever I am relying less on trusting anything that is not being propelled properly first.

“Even when someone tells you to trust their process, double back on that.

“I fell for diet/workout plans that stopped my period and continued through that (which is an absolute no-no) for ‘the process’.

“Just one example of a lesson though, it’s my life. My process. I waited for ages for ‘the process’ to sort out my life and then one day I woke up and thought ‘’;f**k this, something needs to change'”.
