Sarah Harding has died aged 39 after her battle with cancer. The Girls Aloud singer told the world of her diagnosis last year and has been sharing updates on her condition in the year that followed.
When she made the initial announcement, Sarah vowed to fight as hard as she possibly could after undergoing chemotherapy, and earlier this year, she was feeling positive.
She was told in December that Christmas 2020 would likely be her last, and at the time she confessed that she didn’t want an exact prognosis.
Her focus was to be as comfortable and as pain-free as possible, adding that she wanted to “live and enjoy every second of life, however long it might be”.
Sarah detailed her journey in her autobiography Hear Me Out, released in March 2021, and explained how she was feeling “positive”.
At the time she wrote: “Before I put this book to bed, I wanted to share a little bit of positive news.
“MRI scans at the end of December revealed that the tumours in my brain and in my lung have shrunk a bit with the treatment.”
She added: “I don’t know exactly what this means for me, but at least I know it’s moving in the right direction, and right now, every little victory feels momentous.
“With this news under my belt, I was able to enjoy a relaxing quiet Christmas with mum and yes, I got plenty of lovely Christmas pressies.”
Sarah also referenced how grateful she was for waking up every day and living “her best life”, adding, “because now I know just how precious it is.”
The singer reunited with her Girls Aloud friends shortly after she revealed her diagnosis, confessing it was their first time together as a group in eight years.
Sarah has the support from her friends, with Cheryl writing a snippet in her book that said Sarah’s illness “hit her hard”, adding that she was “on her brain every waking hour”.
The news of Sarah’s death has left family, friends, fans and loved-ones devastated as Sarah’s mum updated people through the singers Instagram.
She wrote: “It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.
“Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day.
“She slipped away peacefully this morning.”
Sarah’s mum thanked everyone for their support which has been shown to the singer throughout her diagnosis, adding: “I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease.
“She was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead.”
