Twitter was a bag of mixed emotions after E4 launched the first episode of Amanda Holden’s The Holden Girls, featuring her grandmother.
Amanda, known to many as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent had her gran, Myrtle, move in with her for two weeks to participate in a new fly-on-the-wall programme for the network.
Mrytle, originally from Doncaster, South Yorks, ventured down south to live with her famous granddaughter, Amanda’s husband, Chris and their two children.
Former Wild At Heart actress Amanda, 50, claimed her gran had been lonely in South Yorkshire during the lockdown periods throughout the coronavirus pandemic so it seemed fitting for her nan to move in.
Over recent weeks, there had been rumours circulating about who will be taking on the role of Myrtle, with many suggesting Alan Carr, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
The role, however, fell to comedian Leigh Francis, known for his character Keith Lemon on ITV’s Celebrity Juice.
However, Twitter was a mixed bag this evening as fans flocked to the micro-blogging site to share their thoughts with one another.
“Amanda Holden must really need the money to do this show Jesus #mandyandmyrtle,” said one.
While a second added: “Great to see Amanda Holden sending herself up in this, I’m laughing way too much #mandyandmyrtle.”
“@amandaholden I haven’t laughed like this for ages… Brilliantly funny,” said a third.
Before a fourth commented: “This Amanda Holden/Leigh Francis thing is actually quite brilliant. Laughed out loud countless times already.”
“Really Amanda Holden? Can she sink any lower? #mandyandmyrtle,” penned a fifth.
During the episode, Amanda was left furious with her gran who surprised her with a mystery Amazon delivery.
Speaking to her gran, Amanda asked: “Oh, what have you been ordering?”
“For this walk we’re doing, I thought it might be a bit lacklustre so I’ve ordered something to spice it up, a bit more fun for the kids,” Myrtle said.
The Yorkshire lass went on to show Amanda the two costumes before asking: “What do you think then Mandy?”
Myrtle slipped into a costume that made her appear as though she was being held up by an alien, while Amanda wore a pink leotard paired with a yellow tutu.
While attempting to convince Myrtle that she liked it, Myrtle said: “I think she’s worried it’s going to ruin her brand but it makes her look fun.”
The pair were set to participate in a 50km walk, with Amanda saying it was “50km and fabulous”.
