BBC Breakfast weatherman mortified as he forgets host Jon Kay's name in awkward moment

BBC Breakfast’s Matt Taylor was cringing on Wednesday morning after he forgot the name of the presenter, and tweeted a “helpful” reminder that producers made for him.

He posted a picture on Twitter of a sign that spells out the day, his own name, and the names of the presenters.

An embarrassed Matt wrote: “I’m being trolled by the crew up here on the room of Broadcasting House… after forgetting who was on the BBC Breakfast sofa earlier. Jon Kay, Jon Kay, Jon Kay!” with a camera man alongside.

Presenter Louise Minchin found the whole thing hilarious, replying with many laughing emojis.

Jon Kay shared the tweet, as he captioned it ominously: “I don’t forgive, Matt. And I don’t forget.”

He then wound Matt up by calling him the wrong name: “Carol Kirkwood. Carol Kirkwood. Carol Kirkwood.”

It happened at around 6.15, when Matt handed back to the studio at the end of his report.

He began well as he signed off: “That’s how it’s looking and back to er… Louise and also… to…”

Louise jumped in saying “Jon! Jon!”

“Mystery voice competiton!” laughed Jon, who fortunately saw the funny side.

“It is, it is. Mystery voice! Sorry Jon” apologised Matt, clearly mortified.

“Thanks Carol! You’re good” quipped Jon.

Matt continued to apologise for the blooper as Jon and Louise giggled in the studio.

“Oh, bless him” added Louise, clearly trying to make Matt feel better for his mistake.

Later he stumbled over Jon’s name again awkwardly, as Jon said: “And we trust this man to tell us the weather!”

It was a very awkward moment

“I still trust him!” insisted Louise.

It comes days after she managed to make Matt blush with a comment about the heatwave.

Louise asked Matt about the “steamy” weather forecast and asked if it was OK to refer to it as that.

“Probably not,” laughed Dan Walker as Matt visibly turned red.

Louise laughed gleefully: “I’m not sure I’ve managed to make you blush before, Matt!”

Jon and Louise couldn’t stop laughing

A still-blushing Matt replied: “You’ve managed it! One week to go and you’ve done it”

Louise is due to leave the show later this month.

She has been sharing kind messages sent to her from viewers and fans.

The star said she will be printing some of them off.
