Hugh Grant is one of Britain’s most iconic actors and his life off-screen has been truly stranger than fiction.
The 60-year-old actor rose to fame in his breakout Four Weddings and a Funeral role, before going on to star in classic films such as Bridget Jones’s Diary and Love Actually.
Life hasn’t always been easy going for The Undoing star, who was famously arrested in 1995 after being caught with a sex worker by police on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard.
Indeed, his journey through stardom and life has often been fraught, though Hugh seems to have mellowed in his later years.
Born in London in 1960, Hugh began his acting career in 1982.
A memorable co-star
In 1987, Hugh met his former girlfriend Liz Hurley on a movie set, with the pair surviving the hiccup of his arrest and dating until their amicable split in 2000.
He has since appeared in numerous TV and film productions, starring opposite a number of leading ladies including Sandra Bullock, Julianne Moore and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Having previously revealed Renée Zellweger is one of the few female co-stars he ‘hasn’t fallen out with’, Hugh confirmed last year that he had snogged his Music and Lyrics cast mate Drew Barrymore before filming.
Speaking about the smooch on The Drew Barrymore Show, Hugh said: “It was really bizarre.”
‘Bad attitude’
Hugh’s falling out with his female co-stars may be explained by his self-described “bad attitude”.
Last year, he told The Los Angeles Times: “I developed a bad attitude from about 2005 onwards, shortly after Music and Lyrics. I just had enough.
“Then I went back in 2009 and made another film.”
Revealing the flop of Did You Hear About The Morgans? left him feeling like Hollywood had ‘given up on him’, Hugh added: “Whether I wanted to or not after that, the days of being a very well-paid leading man were suddenly gone overnight.
“It was slightly embarrassing but it left life free for other things.”
True love
Hugh is now happily married to Anna Eberstein, who he was first pictured with in 2012.
The couple tied the knot in 2018 and share three children together, with Hugh recently revealing that he is glad to see the back of his former bachelor lifestyle.
He told Virgin Radio: “Well, I was wrong, I was just plain wrong [about being a bachelor].
“And children, you know. I used to roll my eyes. People would say, ‘Oh Hugh you don’t understand it’, but they were right.”
The Paddington 2 actor also shares two children with his ex-wife, Tinglan Hong.
