Piers Morgan watches NTAs at home after refusing to attend unless he won award

Controversial telly host Piers Morgan is watching the NTAs from home after refusing to attend the glitzy bash unless he won the award for Presenter of the Year.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter posted a picture of his feet perched on the coffee table with a view of the National Television Awards on the telly in the background.

The star captioned the pic: “UPDATE: The @OfficialNTAs asked me who would accept the award on my behalf if I won Presenter of the Year. ‘If I’ve won, I’ll come down and accept it myself,’ I replied excitedly, rapidly dusting off my Tux and tickling my speech. Since then, deafening silence.”

Morgan, 56, shared a picture of his bare feet propped up on his coffee table as he watched the awards ceremony from the comfort of his sofa.

The 56-year-old was nominated for the TV Presenter award for the first time ever, against Ant and Dec, This Morning’s Holly Willougby and Alison Hammond and The Chase host Bradley Walsh.

Morgan also boasted on Twitter: “Got a cracking seat. #NTAs.”

Never one to bite his tongue, the honest telly host said prior to the awards: “I deserve to win because everyone’s sick and tired of Ant and Dec automatically winning this award, which bears no relation to reality.”

Ant and Dec have won the award for 19 years in a row and were hoping to make it 20 on Thursday night.

Morgan added: “They’ve done nothing special in the last year, even they would admit that. I think it’s time the procession came to a shuddering halt and the Morgan bandwagon was rewarded with glory.”

But the former Britain’s Got Talent judge hinted to his 1.7million Instagram followers and 7.9million Twitter followers that he already knew he had lost the Best Presenter Award with the “deafening silence” that followed his request.

Celeb pals and fans took to social media to show support for Morgan’s nomination, with fellow presenter India Willoughby saying: “This is the year Piers. wouldn’t have called otherwise. It’s in the bag.”

While a fan said: “I would be delighted if you win Piers… it would make my day… you are the best and no mistake!
