Piers Morgan takes veiled swipe at Ant & Dec as he's booed at NTAs

Fuming Piers Morgan lashed out at Ant and Dec with a tongue in cheek remark after they scooped him to the best presenter at the National Television Awards.

The former Good Morning Britain anchor, 56, had been nominated in the Best TV Presenter category alongside Ant and Dec, Bradley Walsh, Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond.

Over the past two decades, the Geordie duo has taken home the famous award, with there being no hope for any other presenter.

This year, however, Piers had been hoping to walk away with the award but was left rather annoyed that he hadn’t, refusing to even attend the ceremony unless he won.

Following the news, the disgruntled star took to Twitter to hit out at the pair after he had been booed by the live audience.

In view of his 7.9 million Twitter followers, the dad-of-four penned: “Wow! What a shock! Congrats to Ant & Dec.

“Thoroughly deserved 20th consecutive win – the way they held those jungle contestants to account during the pandemic was absolutely brilliant. #NTAs.”

However, Piers’ followers were left with mixed reactions following the news with many taking to the replies of his post.

“Would Sir like any cheese with his sour grapes?” asked one.

Before a second penned: “Quitters don’t win things,” noting Piers’ sensational departure from Good Morning Britain.

“Why can’t someone else win at least once, it’s boring and predictable, you did so much SO MUCH during the pandemic, In my eyes, you’re the winner,” added a third.

While a fourth commented: “Booed by a room full of celebs,” referencing the fact Piers received a negative reception from the room of tele’s greatest names.

“Disappointed for you Piers. You worked so hard through the pandemic to keep us updated and challenge the decisions of the government! You deserved that award! And got my vote,” penned a fifth.

Earlier today, Piers tweeted: “Voting’s now closed in the @OfficialNTAs – so thanks to everyone who voted for me.

“I won’t be at the show tonight but maybe you could pick up my award for me if I win @RickyGervais – can’t think of anyone better suited to celebrating free speech!”

Ahead of the ceremony, Piers said he would have been delighted to win as it would annoy Meghan Markle, who he famously disagreed with earlier this year.

He claimed that it “could possibly annoy Meghan Markle more” as he would be “crowned King of Television in front of millions of viewers”.
