A recent inquest into the death of Bay City Rollers’ legendary ex-frontman Les McKeown reveals his lifestyle of ‘excessive’ drink and drugs led to his tragic death.
The 65-year-old Scottish pop star died suddenly after going into cardiac arrest on April 20 at home with his family, who announced the news of his tragic death to heartbroken fans.
The star’s widow, Peko Keiko, revealed how she tried to save her husband by giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation when she found him unconscious at their London home.
Peko, who attended the inquest at Poplar Coroner’s Court, burst into tears on hearing how one of his last acts was kissing her goodbye as she went to tennis practice, according to SWNS.
Her statement, read out by the coroner at the inquest at Poplar Coroner’s Court, said: “I left the house at 9.20am to go to tennis practice and my husband wanted to help me take my bike downstairs.
“He kissed me goodbye and went back upstairs. I returned at 11.30am. I placed the key in the front door but it wouldn’t move.
“I pushed the door and I saw my husband’s head on the door. He was not moving. I called out to my son and he was in his room.”
“Leslie was not breathing and I was trying to call 999. I started doing mouth-to-mouth. My husband was pale but still warm.”
Keiko went onto reveal in her statement that she saw a man passing by and asked him to call an ambulance while she and her son continued chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth.
Coroner Madam Hassell, who presided over the inquest proceedings, said: “Les died of a number of natural causes, including long-term blood pressure.
“It was partly natural, it was long-term high blood pressure, and it was partly a consequence of the long-term use of excessive use of alcohol and drugs.
McKeown is also reported to have left behind £1.5million estate after his tragic death. He is best known for hits like I Only Wanna Be With You, Bye Bye Baby, Shang-a-Lang and Give a Little Love. They were hugely successful, selling more than 120 million records.
