Kate Garraway opens up on emotional video call with Derek after NTA documentary win

Good Morning Britain’sKate Garraway has shared sweet pictures of her video call with husband Derek Draper after her emotional NTA win.

Kate scooped the award for Best Documentary for her ITV project Finding Derek, which documented her husband’s struggles with Covid-19.

The star, 54, said the win was “bittersweet”.

Kate has shared a heartfelt tribute to Derek and everyone involved in a caption on her Instagram post, where she posted a screenshot of her chat with Derek.

“Wow. Thank you so so much. Have been in such an emotional daze all night I failed to get a single photo of me or the brilliant production team who made Finding Derek!!”

She continued: “But maybe this is the photo you most wanted to see anyway – me FaceTiming Derek (via Darcey’s phone!) to tell him we had won!

“From him and from the bottom of our family’s hearts THANK YOU. For all who are struggling on and holding on to hope – this is for you. And to all the other wonderful nominations in the category, proud to be among you and I salute your brilliance & bravery xxx”.

Friends and fans left comments of support for Kate and Derek.

Amanda Holden replied “So thrilled you won”.

Good Morning Britain star Alex Beresford said: “His eyes say it all! So happy for you!”

Richard Arnold added: “Love!” with a heart eye emoji, as Lorraine Kelly, Zoe Ball, Gaby Roslin and more left heart emojis.

One fan said: “This was the most important award at the NTAs. Well done on your amazing and so insightful documentary Kate that touch my heart so deeply. The same goes to all the nominees. All amazing people with amazing stories to share”

Today, Friday (September 10) also marks Kate and Derek’s wedding anniversary.

The star was reading out messages of support on the show as listeners swamped Kate with notes about their happiness for her win.
