Joe Swash suffers epic MasterChef blunder as he serves 'raw' duck to top critics

Joe Swash suffered an awkward blunder on Celebrity MasterChef when served up raw-looking duck to three top restaurant critics.

On Friday night’s episode of the BBC One celeb cooking show, Joe was in the last semi-final along with Melanie Sykes, Dion Dublin, Megan McKenna, Kadeena Cox and Kem Cetinay.

However, the episode quickly turned sour for Joe when he was tasked with whipping up a plate of cooked duck.

His meal was pan fried duck breast served with fondant potatoes, creamed spinach, carrots and a red wine cherry sauce.

Tensions arose in the kitchen when Joe was almost finished cooking the dish, and he spotted that blood was leaking from his sliced duck.

Poor Joe nervously said: “Oh look, one of mine is bleeding already!”

He then tried to clear up the situation, saying: “Let me try and suck up some of this blood.”

Host Gregg Wallace could be seen with his hand on his head in disappointment as he watched Joe scurry around the kitchen.

Gregg told John Torode: “That’s leaking out everywhere isn’t it?”

The first food critic, Jimi Famurewa, pointed out: “It’s bleeding onto the plate, that’s melding with the cream which isn’t hugely appetising.”

The second, William Sitwell, commented: “On my single piece of duck there are bits that are almost raw and bits that are overcooked. I don’t know how you do that.”

However, Joe clearly impressed the food experts too.

Things weren’t all doom and gloom for Joe, because Grace Dent said she loved his fondant potatoes, adding that the sauce was “delicious”, and held the rest of the dish together.

Gregg wasn’t pleased and he said that having blood on the plate is “off-putting”.

However, John confessed that besides the leaking duck, the dish tasted “really good” – complimenting his “rich” and “glossy” sauce.

Back in the interview room, Joe explained that he didn’t know where the blood had come from, and wondered if he should have tried to conceal the blood by putting cherry sauce on top of it.

He said: “I missed a trick, didn’t I?”

However, Joe ended up making it through to the final of the competition, with TV presenter Melanie Sykes being booted from the show after her “watery” risotto failed to impress the judges.
