Nicki Minaj breaks silence over Met Gala absence and 'snubs' covid jab requirement

Nicki Minaj reveals she isn’t attending the Met Gala 2021 event because of the covid vaccine requirement for guests.

The singer took to Twitter to explain her absence to fans, saying: “If I vaccinated it won’t [be] for the Met”.

The Met Gala saw the best and biggest celebrities walk the red carpet and showcase their incredible gowns in the most iconic fashion event of the year.

The theme of the event, which was postponed from May due to the pandemic, is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, to celebrate American fashion and independence.

Nicki wrote on social media: “They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research.

“I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”

She then responded to a fan expanding that she isn’t telling others not to get the jab themselves: “I know babe. A lot of countries won’t let people work without the vaccine. I’d definitely recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families.”

The star added that she may receive the Covid jab later as she’s planning to go on tour.

“I’m sure I’ll be vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc,” Nicki penned.

Rumours on why the 38-year-old wasn’t joining her fellow stars have been speculating over recent weeks, and the rapper had been scheduled to perform at the 2021 VMAs on Sunday but dropped out days beforehand.

The singer claimed her cousin’s friend had “become impotent” after receiving the vaccine, which saw her tweet go viral.

The American Centre for Disease Control disputed any connection between the vaccine and erectile dysfunction.

Nicki alleged: “My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine because his friend got it and became impotent.

“His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding.

“So just pray on it and make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied.”
