Craig Revel Horwood says strict Covid rules won't put stop to infamous 'Strictly curse'

Strictly Come Dancing fans speculate every single year over whether any couples will couple up, and with Covid social distancing many might think that romance may be off the cards for 2021.

However, famously outspoken Craig Revel Horwood reckons Covid rules won’t put a stop to the so-called “Strictly curse”.

Over the years more than a dozen dance couples have hooked up together on the hit BBC telly series, and fans love a good romantic tale.

Recent romances from the series included comic Seann Walsh and his married pro partner Katya Jones, and documentary-maker Stacey Dooley and dancer Kevin Clifton.

But judge Craig reckons love could still be in the air on the dancefloor despite a coronavirus ban on smooching.

He said: “I agree with it, only because kissing passes on disease and we’re still living in a Covid world, darling – we’ve got to protect the show.

“There’s still scope for the Strictly ‘curse’, which I don’t believe is a curse.

“Let people be blessed with love, and flirting.”

On Loose Women, previous contestants Sunetra Sarker, Mark Wright and Judy Murray joked about a rumoured “kissing ban”. The trio appeared in Series 12.

Sunetra said: “I think realistically, I don’t think that’s going to stop people from doing that. What are your thoughts on that Mark? Because we were all kissing each other every day.”

Mark looked at Judy and joked: “I’m glad this rule wasn’t in place when we did it, as me and Judy were kissing all the time!”

He added: “Whether it’s kissing, touching hands or whatever, I think we’re all trying to do our bit to stop the spread of Covid.”

Craig, 56, revealed that health and safety means he has to miss out on bottles of bubbles in dressing rooms with Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.

But he said that one good thing that has come from the pandemic is that it has inspired his 35-year-old fiance Jonathan Myring to switch career.

Craig says his partner is retraining

He said: “He’s a horticulturalist but is actually retraining to be a paramedic.

“You know what your typical Saturday nights are like for the ambulance service… he’ll be really busy.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns this Saturday, at 7.45pm on BBC One
