Graham Norton says he's 'nowhere near ready to retire' and is 'busier than ever'

Presenter Graham Norton has revealed that he won’t be giving up his day job anytime soon as his schedule now looks busier than ever.

The Graham Norton show host prepares to bring back his programme with a James Bond special and, at the age of 58, declares it’s no time to be slowing down.

Graham revealed to the Mirror that he is nowhere near to retiring and said: “I had this idea that I was going to cut down on my workload, just kind of take my foot off the pedal a bit, and yet the opposite has happened. I’m busier now than I think I’ve ever been.”

He says: “I was thinking I wanted to retire, and then in that first lockdown I was getting a preview of what retirement might be like and not liking it so much.

“So I started thinking, ‘Actually, aren’t I lucky that I get to work?’.”

As well as his chat show, he has now become a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK alongside Michelle Visage and Alan Carr.

He also hosts a book club on Audible, and has his own show on Virgin Radio.

The famous presenter also explained: “Having somewhere to be or somebody who wants you to show up, or just having a purpose in a day changes your free time, makes it different.”

Talking about his return to the screens, he also revealed a sneak peek into the star-studded secrets of what’s to come, highlighting the 007 special.

Graham says: “If you think the Bond premiere has been moved around, our Bond special moved around just as much. So that’s going to be our first show back, with Daniel Craig and a bunch of other stars from the new movie.

In regards to dream guests who he would love to sit on the famous sofa of his, he says the Queen would be at top of the list.

He added: “I’d like to have any of the royals on.

“If the Queen wants to come on and do some sort of PR makeover, she’s very welcome. She needs some good times.”
