Libertines frontman Pete Doherty has married his fiancée Katia de Vidas in a secret ceremony just days after announcing their engagement.
The rockstar’s rep confirmed on Tuesday that he had popped the question to Katia.
But eagle-eyed fans had already become suspicious after Katia was spotted sporting a shiny new ring on Instagram.
The news of him tying the knot came from Katia’s cousin Julia Mallet, who confirmed on social media that the couple had officially exchanged vows.
She shared a stunning snap of Katia dazzling in a wedding dress, and penned: “When you find out your cousin got married over night!! Congratulations Katia and Pete Doherty!!”
Katia playfully raised an arm in the air and stuck out her tongue while wearing a veil and white dress, posing with her cousin Julia.
Katia’s ring was first spotted by keen-eyed fans on Instagram, as she snuggled up with Pete and Welsh musician Jack Jones, and an adorable pooch.
As she reached around to give the dog a sweet kiss, the engagement ring could be seen glinting on Katia’s ring finger.
The lovebirds have been dating for several years, and currently live together in France where Pete is living a much more sedate lifestyle.
Their love story initially began in 2005 when the pair met at Katia’s 31st birthday party, with Pete remarking afterwards that he had “really found love”.
But things haven’t always been smooth sailing, as the couple briefly decided to end things when Pete failed to complete a rehabilitation programme in Arizona.
They were briefly engaged in 2007, but later split for good without tying the knot.
And Pete went to some rather extreme lengths in his quest for love, as he famously drew a picture of him and Katia together using crayons… and his own blood.
The musician also hit headlines when he wrote ‘I love Kate 4 eva’ on his car windscreen after leaving court.
But it looks like things are going much more smoothly for the couple now, as they prepare to settle down into married life.
The singer has now been sober from heroin for an impressive two and a half years, and has been replacing his unhealthy habits with country walks with his resident pooch.
Speaking to BBC Scotland, Pete revealed he is still writing music after moving to Normandy, France.
He said: “I’m in recovery I suppose. I’m two and a half years clean of heroin which is a big deal for me and yeah I’m ticking along, writing music, still writing music.”
And the star cheekily added that he now enjoys “a nice glass of water.”
