TikTok star, 19, died in police chase while 'driving illegal immigrants across border'

Gabriel Salazar, a popular TikTok star, has died in a tragic incident while driving illegal immigrants across the Mexican border, police have said.

It has been reported that the star died while involved in a police chase.

The star was just 19-years-old when he died in a crash at around 1.25am on Sunday, September 26 in Texas, US, near La Pryor.

Gabriel had 1.3 million followers on the social media app where he posted under his username @gabenotbabe.

His account reached peak popularity after regularly posting funny videos of himself with his friends.

He also posted clips of him lip-syncing to songs too, and his last post was just four days before his death was reported.

Gabriel tragically died on September 26

It has been reported that the teen was driving three male immigrants into America from the Mexican border.

Zavala County Sheriff’s Office has said that the three passengers also died in the crash.

The three men were: Jose Luis Jimenez-Mora, 41, Jose Molina-Lara, 23, and Sergio Espinoza-Flores, 36.

Police say a deputy had overheard a call from the Crystal City Police Department after they initiated a stop on a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro that Gabriel was driving.

It’s not known what caused police to initiate the traffic stop, and the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating what happened.

News of Gabriel’s death broke online the day after he tragically died.

Gabriel grew to popularity on TikTok with 1.3million followers

On Monday, September 27 his friends and fans started to leave heartfelt tributes for him.

Fellow social media star and friend of Gabriel, Ricky Flores, shared a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram.

Posting a series of photos of himself and Gabriel together, he wrote a touching caption.

The caption read: “Rest easy brother. Words can’t even explain how I feel right now. Man, I would do anything to get you back right now bro.”

Ricky also shared a link to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Gabriel’s memorial.

The fundraiser named ‘Gabe’s memorial fund’ had an aim to raise $25,000.

As of October 2 2021, $38,355 has been raised for Gabriel’s memorial, with donations from 2,200 people.

News of his death broke online the day after his death

An Instagram account under the name of Danna Salazar, took to Instagram to write a touching tribute that read: “I love you so much Gabriel. you were so perfect. I will never forget you, take care of us from heaven my beautiful child. always in my heart. September 26, 2021.” [Translated from Spanish]

It is thought that Danna is Gabriel’s older sibling.

Danna also posted details of Gabriel’s funeral, which is said to have taken place on Wednesday September 29, just three days after his tragic death.
