Pop sensation Britney Spears has admitted she has “a lot of healing to do” following her dad’s suspension from conservatorship after 13 years
A Los Angeles court suspended Jamie Spears as his daughter’s conservator last week, leading the Baby! One More Time singer to post a candid message on Instagram after the court ruling.
“Although there is change and things to celebrate in my life, I still have a lot of healing to do,” she wrote on her official Instagram account.
“Thankfully I have a good support system and am taking time to understand it’s ok to slow down and breathe.”
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled in Spears’ favour during a court hearing on September 29, describing the arrangement as “toxic.”
The 39-year-old musician testified in June that her father ruined her life through his role in the conservatorship, alleging that he took pleasure in controlling her and causing her pain.
The Circus singer, who did not attend the hearing, posted on Instagram shortly after the announcement: “On cloud 9 right now!!!!”
The judge appointed business owner John Zabel to temporarily replace Jamie and take over his position through the end of the year.
Additionally, the musician’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, announced that he plans to file paperwork within the next two months to terminate the conservatorship altogether.
The Grammy award winner recently announced her engagement to fitness instructor Sam Asghari, who expressed his excitement at the news of Britney’s legal win, writing on Instagram Stories, “FREE BRITNEY! CONGRATULATIONS!!!”
Britney’s lawyer commented outside of the courthouse that she was “very happy” with the outcome, but declined to provide additional details, citing attorney-client privileges.
“It’s been a lot of hard work,” he said, “It’s been intense. I’m proud. Britney’s proud.”
Spears has taken to social media sharing photos and videos of herself and her new fiancé, who announced their engagement on September 12, enjoying a vacation in a tropical location.

Britney’s father Jamie has since called his suspension “disappointing.” His attorney, Vivian Thoreen, said in a statement:
“For thirteen years, [Mr. Spears] has tried to do what is in [Britney’s] best interests, whether as a conservator or her father,” the statement read.
Jamie alleged that Britney “voluntarily entered into the conservatorship. For anyone who has tried to help a family member dealing with mental health issues, they can appreciate the tremendous amount of daily worry and work this required.”
The next hearing on November 12 will focus on terminating the singer’s 13-year conservatorship for good.
