Bradley Walsh has admitted he was unsure about reviving Darling Buds of May as he takes on the role of Pop Larkin after saying the nation needs slower and more gentle dramas after the pandemic.
61-year-old Bradley has discussed being wary of becoming too ubiquitous and reveals he hasn’t brought back Pop’s “Perfik!” catchphrase.
The Doctor Who star told Radio Times: “He says it in the books, of course, but it became such an iconic catchphrase in the 90s that we decided not to go back there.
“We used the word once, maybe twice, in the whole series.”
The character Pop Larkin was most famously portrayed by Only Fools and Horses’ star David Jason in 1991-1993.
The first of six episodes of the H. E. Bates’ novel adaption will premier this Sunday.
Bradley who is best known for hosting ITV’s The Chase has recently fronted rival gameshows at the same time.
Last Saturday night (October 2nd), Bradley was seen on ITV’s Beat The Chasers with a new batch of contestants competing against Jenny Ryan, Anne Hegerty, Shaun Wallace, Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha and Darragh Ennis.
Bradley was seen on top presenting form on the show however, anyone channel surfing after 9pm would have done a double-take.
BBC One kicked off their new classic game show, Blankety Blank hosted by none other than Bradley Walsh.
Fans were quick to comment on Twitter, one said: “Blankety Bank has returned, and Bradley Walsh is currently simultaneously on the two main channels at once. It’s no wonder the pubs are full.”

Another added: “Bradley Walsh is presenting a game show now on *BOTH* BBC One (Blankety Blank) and ITV (Beat the Chasers). Have the shortages in the UK extended to TV presenters already?”
“Great selection for Saturday night tonight. Wonder what to watch Bradley Walsh on Beat The Chasers or Bradley Walsh on Blankety Blank?” wrote a third.
A fourth saw an upside and said: “Joking aside, if screening Bradley Walsh round the clock on all channels is what it takes for him conquer that Ant & Dec NTA, then SO BE IT”
Blankety Blank first aired in 1979 to 1990 and was hosted by Terry Wogan and later by Les Dawson.
Bradley seemed to enjoy himself hosting both the iconic prime time Saturday night shows.
