Ricarlo Flanagan has passed away at the age of 40.
He was an actor, rapper, and stand-up comic who was a semi-finalist on the ninth season of Last Comic Standing and had a recurring role on Showtime’s Shameless.
His agent Stu Golfman of KMR Talent confirmed the news to Deadline, saying that “Ricarlo was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life and a joy to work for. He will be missed dearly.”
Ricarlo recently took to Twitter about contracting Covid, writing: “This covid is no joke. I don’t wish this on anybody.”
However, the cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.
Ricarlo released his debut comedy album, Man Law, in 2013, before going on to appear on NBC’s stand-up showcase Last Comic Standing in 2015.
As well as appearing on Shameless, he also had roles in Disney+ series Walk the Prank, having also guest-starred on The Mick, The Carmichael Show, Insecure, The Neighborhood, Mad About You, Kidding and Room 104.
Just before he died, Ricarlo had booked a one-episode part on Bust Down, also well as finding his first film role in John Patton Ford’s thriller Emily the Criminal, opposite Aubrey Plaza and Theo Rossi.
Ricarlo was also a rapper who released three albums under the name Father Flanagan, including Death of Davinchi (2010), An Opus Inspired By Andre Martin (2019), and Hope Your Proud (2020).
His fourth album, Both Sides Of The Brain, was scheduled for release yesterday (October 12).
Donations to his family can be made at a GoFundMe page, set up by friends to raise funds to get him home to his family.
On the fundraising page, his friend Gabriela Bonilla wrote: “The news of a loved one’s death is never something easy to hear, let alone if you are far away from the individual.
“Our dear friend has suddenly passed away and sadly was far from his family. Ricarlo Flanagan was a loving son, grandson, cousin, nephew, and friend with many amazing talents.
“He brought laughter to every room he walked in. We would like to get him home to his family in Cleveland, Ohio, so his family can put him to rest.
“We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Please help us with any contribution you are able to give. This will be greatly appreciated, not only by us but most importantly by his family.”
