Adele has lifted the lid on her relationship to Simon Konecki in a candid interview with Heart FM.
The Grammy Award-winner, 33, explained to radio hosts Amanda Holden, 50, and Jamie Theakston, 50, that life had been “exhausting” and that their divorce was long “overdue”.
She appeared on the morning programme to promote her first single in five years – Easy On Me – with the long awaited new album dropping on 19 November.
During an Instagram live, Adele recently confirmed to a fan that the lyrics had been inspired by her “divorce” to Simon in 2019.
The hitmaker and Simon had been married 2016, but they called time on their romance and officially divorced this year.
Speaking to Adele on the breakfast radio show, Jamie asked: “There will be a lot of people listening who have got things in their life that they’re not too happy about, you did something about it.
“You made some big, life-changing decisions, how important was that to you?”
In reply, the Hello singer explained: ‘It was overdue.
“It was exhausting, it was really hard work but I was able to take the time that I needed, which isn’t a given for everyone, I’m very aware of that.”
She continued: “The more and more you put it off, the worse and worse it gets and I had been putting it off anyway for years before… now I am chilled as anything.
“So I’d say it’s worth it, you know treading through all of that poo is worth it.”
In agreement, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden joked: “You have to put on your waders don’t you?”
“One hundred percent. Or you’ve just got to jump in head first,” quipped the chart topper.
Moving on with the chat and discussing her upcoming album release Adele told the two hosts that she’d “done a lot of learning over the past few years, more than ever, and there is a reason I am one of the most complicated and complex people I’ve known in my life.
“And I feel like I’m a little bit closer to understanding why so that’s what my side is.
“I have huge amount of feelings as well, it doesn’t mean they go away.”
British fans were also happy to hear that Adele appeared to be missing the UK after spending most of her time in the US with her son Angelo, nine.
The mum-of-one said: “Talking to British people is making me incredible homesick I’m not gonna lie. It’s actually f**king me off a little.”
