Former Loose Women star Saira Khan has opened up to her fans about her menopause experience and said it caused her to feel depressed.
Taking to her Instagram to share her thoughts with her fans, Saira, 51, gave a detailed explanation of how her body changed drastically and how her marriage suffered because of the hormonal alteration.
Posting a picture of herself in her dressing gown, the TV personality penned an emotional caption beside the photo.
She wrote: “I went from feeling suicidal on menopause to embracing it with HRT and a new mindset on how to live the next chapter of my life in my body. Take action of your best life! Age is irrelevant.”
She added: “Your body is changing….change with it. What’s stopping you? “
The mother-of-two then took to her Instagram and posted a picture of herself wearing a colourful bikini and looking much happier.
Smiling cheerfully while showing off her snatched waist, Saria wrote a lengthy message to explain the turmoil she went through during her menopause.
She said: “Can a woman feel sexy going through the menopause? Can she feel herself again, energised, in control and stronger than ever? Yes you can GURL! If you SEE it and HEAR it, you can BE it and LIVE it.
“Going through the menopause nearly cost me my marriage and mental health . At the age of 47 I went from being the life and soul of the party, confident, sociable, energetic and positive to feeling depressed, irritable, negative and paranoid.
“My body became unrecognisable, my hot sweats affected my confidence and self esteem. My skin around my private parts broke out into sores that looked like nappy rash. My desire to be intimate with my husband totally disappeared – I did not want to be touched. I did not want to make the effort. I did not want to talk about it.”
The star then went on to express that she was initially confused with what her body was going through.
“I had no idea that what I was going through. But through talking, sharing, opening up, reading, educating myself I went to my GP, an amazing woman who put me onto HRT.”
Saria spoke openly about hormone replacement therapy which is known as HRT.
“Going through the menopause made me step up and put the energy and effort into putting myself first.
“Going on HRT was the first and important step to feeling like myself again – but it’s not the full solution, your hot sweats may subside, your skin may improve – but it won’t necessarily make you feel like the woman you once were.
“You need to compliment HRT with taking ACTION!”
She continued: “I started to focus on my feelings, on getting a healthier diet inside me full of good fats, more protein, I switched my fitness to more strength work, I started to walk more, focus on my breathing, let go of toxic environments and people, learn to relax and spend time doing the things I enjoy.
“I got rid of my grey, washed out underwear that was making me feel frumpy, I began to appreciate and accept my body more. I started to look after my skin and spend more time on looking after me.
“I hope this helps. It’s not what everyone wants to hear – they think that just by swallowing a pill or rubbing some gel into your thighs it is a miracle cure – it helps, but the real difference is when you take your life by the horns and run with it.
“Changing my mindset & lifestyle have helped me to love the CHANGE.”
