EastEnders favourite Jay Brown finds himself caught up in one of Janine Butcher’s (Charlie Brooks) money-making plots in upcoming scenes.
It’s not the only major storyline that his character has become involved with since walking onto Albert Square as a teenager in 2006.
Played by Jamie Borthwick, 27, the character has coped with everything from the death of his father to helping Ben Mitchell (Mac Bowden) cover up the murder of Heather Trott.
Jamie’s life away from Albert Square is a lot less dramatic, but his real life still maintains connections to his EastEnders roots.
Born in Barking, London on June 23 1994, Jamie discovered that he is related to his EastEnders’ co-star Charlie Winter, who plays Hunter Owen in the soap.
He first discovered the connection between the two of them, when he first suggested to Charlie that they could be related, after realising that his Uncle and the Hunter Owen actor shared the same name.
Jamie told Ok! Online, “My great uncle is called Charlie Winter, so when they said there was a kid coming in called Charlie Winter, I was like, ‘Seriously?'”
“Turns out we are second cousins”, he added.
Jamie is also close friends with Ben Mitchell actor Max Bowden, who shared a video of the two of them singing in the car earlier this year.
In the video, the two actors who are both the same age, sang a rendition of Uncle Cracker’s 2006 hit Follow Me, with Jamie saying “are you having a laugh?” to Max as he showed off his professional singing voice.
In another EastEnders link, Jamie also admitted to having a not-so secret crush on co-star Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell.
He said he was 14 when he first saw her and that Perry Fenwick who plays Billy Mitchell, dared him to chat her up.
Jamie told Digital Spy, “Perry [Fenwick, who plays Billy] told me to chat her up, and I remember walking over to her and saying, ‘Alright darlin’… wow, you smell nice’.
“It brought the house down and we still laugh about it.”
Talking about Jamie, Honey Mitchell actress Emma said “he’s like my baby brother. I am so protective over him it’s unreal.”
His character Jay and Honey are currently in a relationship in EastEnders, much to the dismay of father figure Billy, who used to date Honey in the soap.
Outside of Albert Square, Jamie is private about his life, but was spotted out and about with a mystery lady in August of this year, sparking romance rumours.
He attended the launch of Frankie Bridge’s book GROW: Motherhood, Mental Health and Me, accompanied by the beautiful brunette and were seen smiling at each other after the leaving the event.
EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One
