Asha Alahan’s love life on the cobbles of Coronation Street has been a rollercoaster – from partnering up with murderer Corey Brent to pining after Nina Lucas.
But thankfully, actress Tanisha Gorey, 18, has had a much more sedate ride through the tunnel of love, and is happily in a relationship with her boyfriend Lucas Whelan.
The pair went public with their relationship last June, with Manchester student Lucas posting a sweet birthday tribute to Tanisha on Instagram.
He wrote: “Want to wish the biggest happy birthday to the best girlfriend anyone could ask for,” with a smiley face emoji.
“You’re the best and hope you have the best day ever! Love you lots!”
Tanisha soon returned the favour, posting a collection of snaps of the pair that Christmas with the caption: “You are the best thing I could’ve ever wished for. I hope everyone had the merriest of Christmases… sending all our love xxx.”
In a series of vintage-style polaroid snaps, the pair could be seen wearing matching Christmas cracker hats and enjoying some time together as they snuggled close for the camera.
Speaking to Daily Star and other publications ahead of super soap week, Tanisha revealed that Lucas was even there for her when she was recovering from the impressive stunts which will see her character Asha, her brother Aadi and dad Dev in a tragic car crash.
As the storm around Weatherfield worsens and the prison van carrying villain Harvey Gaskell to hospital approaches, the vehicles end up colliding – leaving Dev to decide which of his twins to rescue from the car.
He eventually opts for an unconscious Asha, leaving Aadi in the car.
A huge explosion rocks the car – and the Alahans’ world – but will any of them make it out alive?
Speaking about filming the stunts, Tanisha said: “[Filming the stunts] was definitely an experience for the books.
“Wow. It was long, and it was brilliant because there were so many people there that don’t work with us – the special effects [team] and even the paramedics that have to be on site, it was really nice to have so many people there.
“I can talk anyone’s ear off, and I love hearing stories from other people and I love knowing what they do, about their careers and stuff like that so it was really lovely to have all those people there because obviously Covid has stopped a lot of people coming into work as well.
“The experience was something I really underestimated,” she added.
“Before we started filming I was saying to my boyfriend I’m really scared – really overplaying it, like I’m going to be wet, I’m going to be cold – really, really being dramatic to make him feel sorry for me.
“And then when I came home I underestimated how dramatic I was being, because wow it was something you cannot imagine, it was unreal.
“Four o’clock in the morning, absolutely drenched, freezing cold. It’s definitely something I’ll remember.”
Tanisha and Lucas have even made their first red carpet appearance together earlier this year at The Trafford Centre in Manchester, for a Big Top event.
To celebrate the launch of TV series The Real Greatest Showmen, Tanisha paired a pastel yellow dress with a white canvas jacket and white trainers for a stylish look.
She added a pale pink bag to the ensemble, and let her dark hair tumble almost to her waist as she beamed at the camera in her trademark glasses.
Lucas, meanwhile, opted for a grey polo shirt and blue denim jeans as he posed with his arm securely around his girlfriend’s shoulder.
The pair have also been spotted enjoying a night on the town together, with Tanisha rocking a pair of distressed bleached jeans and black trainers with a white-and-black polka dot off-the-shoulder top.
Lucas could be see holding a mask and wearing a rather casual outfit comprised of jeans, a white t-shirt and black jacket – and the lovebirds appeared to be sharing a giggle together as they walked along the street.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV.
