The director of Alec Baldwin’s film Rust has been released from hospital after he was wounded when the actor and producer’s firearm was discharged on set.
It has been confirmed that Joel Souza has safely left hospital following the tragic accident which took the life of fellow cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in the early hours of Friday morning.
A crew member, working on the set of the upcoming movie, set the record straight as rumours began to swirl around the shocking accident online.
She reassured fans that the 48-year-old left hospital “hours ago” and will continue to recover at home while filming came to a holt.
She told her 38,000 followers on the social media platform that: “Joel Souza texted me that he’s out of hospital.”
It comes after the accidental death of the talented cinematographer Helyna who sadly passed away from her injuries while on the set of the movie.
The Santa Fe County New Mexico Sheriff confirmed the 68-year-old actor shot two people on a movie set with a prop gun which was believed to be loaded with blanks.
Ms Hutchins, 42, was transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital where she tragically died.
Mr Souza was transported via ambulance to Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Centre where he underwent treatment for his injuries.
Police have stated that the investigation remains open and no charges have been filed, as witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.
A local reporter from ABC News claimed the gun was fired during a scene that was being filmed or rehearsed.
The new Western movie written and directed by Mr Souza follows an outlaw, played by Alec Baldwin, who has had a bounty on his head for years.
When his 13-year-old grandson is convicted of accidental murder and sentenced to hand, he travels to Kansas to break him out of prison.
An unexpected bond forms between the outlaw and his estranged grandson as they go on the run.
Tributes have been pouring in on Twitter following the mum-of-one’s untimely death as fans reminisce her award-winning work online.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wrote on her final Instagram post: “I am so so sorry. Rest easy. My love and strength to your family.”
Producer James Cullen Bressack shared his heartache, as he commented: “I will miss you my dear friend … This is devastating.”
