Alec Baldwin deletes blood-soaked pic of him on set after crew member is shot dead

Alec Baldwin has deleted a snap of himself covered in blood on the set of upcoming Western movie Rust after he accidentally shot the film’s cinematographer and director.

The tragedy sadly killed Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins at the age of 42, while 48-year-old Director Joel Souza was admitted to intensive care with serious injuries at Albuquerque’s University of New Mexico Hospital.

Hours before the heartbreaking accident, Alec, 63, posed on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set near Santa Fe dressed as his bearded, blood-soaked lead character.

The star could be seen slightly hunched beside a trailer wearing a scruffy waistcoat and shirt with frayed cuffs.

He also sported a bandana and dusty cowboy boots as he clutched a bloodied jacket in one hand and his cowboy hat in the other.

The snap has now been deleted from Instagram.

It is thought that the photo’s removal from the pic-sharing site came out of respect for the victims of the tragic accident.

In a statement following the shooting, Santa Fe authorities confirmed that two Rust crew members had been shot.

Sheriff Juan Rios also confirmed: “Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 63, producer, and actor.”

The shooting happened during a scene, but it is yet to be confirmed whether it was being rehearsed or filmed – if the latter, there could be footage.

The incident at the New Mexico set – a favourite among Hollywood filmmakers – remains under investigation as witnesses are brought in for questioning.

The Santa Fe authorities also confirmed that no charges have been filed at this time.

Alec hasn’t spoken publicly, but it is thought he is devastated after being spotted doubled over and crying outside the sheriff’s office.

He reportedly didn’t know the prop gun used in the shooting was loaded with live rounds instead of blanks.

A rep for the Western said: “Production has been halted for the time being on Rust. The safety of our cast and crew remains our top priority.”
