A tweet written by Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has resurfaced online following the tragic news that he accidentally shot and killed a person and injured another on the set of his new film Rust.
In the wake of the distressing incident an old tweet from 2017 has now been doing the rounds on the internet.
The 63-year-old’s haunting message questioned “wrongfully killing someone”, which is particularly poignant considering the tragic events at the Bonanza Creek Ranch film set.
The message Alec wrote four years ago read: “I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone.”
At the time the movie star had been addressing and criticising a police shooting in California.
The Police in Santa Fe, New Mexico confirmed on Thursday that Alec had been the person who fired the stunt firearm which killed Halyna Hutchins, 42.
According to the Santa Fe County sheriff, the director of the Rust movie Joel Souza, 48, had also been injured when the stunt gun was fired.
Mr Souza had been transported via ambulance to Christus St Vincent Regional Medical Center and was treated for his injuries, before being discharged.
Host Kate Garraway announced on Good Morning Britain: “We’ve just got a little bit of news on the breaking news we’ve been bringing you all morning.
“The director who was also injured, Joel Souza, was taken to hospital, well we’ve just heard that he is now out of hospital, so no further details on what his condition is at the moment, but the fact that he’s been released from hospital feels more positive than what it seemed earlier.”
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s department said in a statement: “Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set of the western Rust, October 21, 2021, when an 911 caller reported a shooting on the set.
“The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust.
“Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 63, producer and actor.”
The statement continued: “Ms Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
“Mr Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Centre where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.
“This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”
