Strictly Come Dancing fans have theorised Giovanni Pernice and Rose Ayling-Ellis’ dramatic ballroom dance was a subtle nod to his recent break-up with Maura Higgins.
The Italian hunk, 31, and his celebrity partner Rose, 24, performed a moving number on Saturday night to Alicia Key’s hit 2009 anthem Fallin’ which told the story of a stormy relationship.
They performed an emotional Viennese Waltz in which the pair played the role of a couple torn between staying together or breaking up which earned the pair their first 10 on the dance floor.
And the audience was just as caught up with the romantic routine as the judging panel was, with head judge Shirley Ballas overcome with emotion while watching the routine.
Award-winning dancer Shirley confessed how the routine reminded her of “all her ex-husbands” as her relationships slowly came to a head.
She added: “All the saying ‘go away’, ‘no come here’, it took me back”, as she critiqued their latest dance routine.
But many viewers at home couldn’t help but jump to conclusions that the routine mirrored the Strictly-pro dancer’s short-lived relationship with Love Island star Maura Higgins after The Sun revealed the pair had called time on their relationship after four months together.
One user pointed out: “Interesting concept considering Gio just split with Maura.”
Another questioned: “Was Giovanni describing his relationship with Maura?”
A third fan of the show added: “Anyone else think that ‘argument’ and Giovanni’s ‘explanation’ was about him and Maura?!”
Their break up is understood to have been initiated by Giovanni, who called time on their relationship over concerns about the lack of time they spent together amidst their hectic work schedules.
It has also been reported that Giovanni wasn’t willing to settle down with the Irish belle, ultimately ending their summer of love.
But the pair appear to be on the road to recovery after Maura re-followed her former beau on Instagram following their “utterly heartbreaking” split.
Last Wednesday, the stunning model appeared to be following Giovanni once again, meaning a friendship could be on the cards in the wake of their separation.
The former couple confirmed their romance in July this year after they were spotted dancing the night away in Blackpool.
Strictly continues Sunday night at 7.15pm on BBC One
