ITV's Lorraine Kelly says sex life is 'toddling along nicely' after menopause

Lorraine Kelly has revealed that her sex life has been “toddling along nicely” after going through the menopause.

The beloved ITV presenter, who hosts her daytime talk show Lorraine, has opened up about how things improved in the love department after she got treatment for her menopause symptoms.

The 61-year-old had been going through the menopause on holiday in Spain around a decade ago, but she hadn’t realised it at the time.

It was her husband Steve who first noticed Lorraine’s symptoms as the presenter wasn’t acting like herself, with Lorraine later admitting that she had felt “miserable” and “joyless” during the visit.

However, after trying HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), which involves her putting a patch on her bum twice a week, Lorraine started to feel much better within two weeks.

She explained that her husband Steve felt like he had gotten his wife back due to the HRT patches.

She told The Mirror: “HRT is brilliant. I put a patch on my bum twice a week. Within two weeks of starting it, I felt better. Steve said, ‘I’ve got you back again.’ I was lucky. Many women are misdiagnosed and packed off with antidepressants.”

However, it appears that life improved for Lorraine in a number of ways after undergoing HRT.

That’s because she revealed that her sex drive improved after getting the HRT patches to combat her menopause symptoms.

She was told that people say your sex drive can drop off after menopause, but she replied: “That doesn’t necessarily have to happen and you shouldn’t accept that it will.

“For me, HRT helped everything toddle along nicely in that department.”

She added: “Even if you decide against HRT, there are alternative remedies. You lose your waist as you get older, but HRT helped with this. During the lockdown, I ate too much and I’ve gone up a dress size. But I’m not beating myself up over a few pounds.”

She went on to say that although she was never hired for her looks, she feels that she’s now grown into them.

Lorraine later shared the secret to her long marriage with her partner Steve, whom she’s been married to for almost 30 years.

Lorraine and Steve tied the knot in 1992, and they share their daughter Rosie, who has appeared alongside her mum on Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox.

The presenter explained that they don’t take each other for granted, give each other space, and go out independently as well as together.

She also said that her Mum always says to her that you shouldn’t go to bed on an argument.

Kelly has now teamed up with Always Discreet on their new menopause campaign, seeking to redefine our understanding of menopause and empower women to live it ‘their way’.

Speaking about the campaign, she said: “It [menopause] does sort of creep up and take us by surprise. Lots of women go, ‘Yeah, we know it’s coming but we don’t really know what it’s all about’. We need to feel better prepared.”
