Nadine Coyle’s Last Singer Standing co-star Nicky Byrne has shed light on how the singer reacted to the death of Sarah Harding.
Sarah, died aged 39, on September 5 following a short battle with breast cancer that had spread to various parts of her body.
The late singer went public with her diagnosis in August 2020 after being spotted at a hospital by a fan, before revealing in March 2021 that it was unlikely she would see another Christmas.
Nadine, 36, worked alongside Sarah as bandmates in the chart-mauling group, Girls Aloud for 11 years before they split in 2013.
Now, Westlife singer has revealed that Nadine was dealt the heartbreaking news in the middle of filming the Irish television programme.
He told The Sun on Sunday: “It was a difficult week filming, especially for Nadine, Sarah sadly passed away while we were recording and Nadine was obviously devastated.
“It was such a sad time, Nadine was unbelievable, though, it was so tough for her but she was so professional.”
The singer went on to add: “It was one of those times when everyone tried to give her space to grieve but at the same time be there for her.
“Everyone rallied around her. I don’t know how she did it, [she’s] a real trouper.”
Nadine was left heartbroken following the death of her best friend, with fans naming the pair ‘Sardine’ due to their close friendship and merging their names together.
Paying tribute to the Wear It Like A Crown songstress, Nadine took to social media saying: “I am absolutely devastated!!
“I can’t think of words that could possibly express how I feel about this girl & what she means to me!! I know so many of you will be feeling this way. For now, I’m sending so much love to you!!!”
Sarah’s mum, Marie, took to Instagram to confirm that her beloved daughter had “slipped away” in her sleep surrounded by her family.
Since her death, two of Sarah’s biggest fans, the Sarah Harding Addicts have raised over £4,000 in memory of the late singer via JustGiving.
Speaking to Daily Star about the pop princess, Natasha and Claire who run Sarah Harding Addicts said: “It doesn’t feel real.”
Explaining their fundraiser, the pair – who were known to Sarah and throughout the fanbase – continued: “We just wanted to do it to honour her memory, to raise much-needed funds for The Christie’s and it gave the fans somewhere to donate and leave a message.”
They have since decided that they are considering dedicating a bench to Sarah in her hometown of Manchester as well as London’s Primrose Hill – paying homage to Sarah’s iconic “Here I am, a walking primrose” lyric from the Girls Aloud song, The Promise.
