LBC hit with 840 Ofcom complaints over Steve Allen's Tilly Ramsay 'chubby' remark

Steve Allen has been hit with an astonishing 840 Ofcom complaints after he labelled Tilly Ramsay “chubby” live on LBC.

On October 18, presenter Steve hosted his show and spoke about Tilly’s performance on Strictly Come Dancing.

However, the host failed to hold back on his views regarding the young teen’s appearance which led several listeners to become concerned and angered with his choice of words.

Speaking to his audience in the early hours of the morning, Steve, 67, said: “Is she? Well, she can’t blimming well dance, I’m bored with her already.

“She’s a chubby little thing, isn’t she? Have you noticed? Probably her dad’s cooking, I should imagine.”

But the harsh remarks made by the LBC presenter led to backlash from listeners, with several of them calling for him to resign.

Gordan Ramsay’s daughter Tilly also picked up on the comments that were made and took to Instagram to release a statement addressing Steve’s behaviour.

The lengthy message read: “I try not to read and listen to comments and negativity however recently being called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far.

“Steve please feel free to voice your opinions however I draw the line at commenting on my appearance. It’s such a shame that someone is trying to make such a positive experience negative.”

She continued: “This isn’t the first and definitely won’t be the last comment made about my appearance and I accept that and I’m learning to accept myself.

“But please remember that words can hurt and at the end of the day I am only 19 and I’m so grateful for all the amazing opportunities I have been able to take part in and I understand that being in the public eye obviously comes with it’s own repercussions and I’ve been aware of this from a young age.

“However I won’t tolerate people that think it’s okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone’s weight and appearance. Love Tilly xx”

Since the comments were made, several of Tilly’s supporters have urged for Steve Allen to apologise or step down from his role.

Recent reports have now claimed that the veteran LBC presenter contacted Tilly personally to say sorry.
