Hocus Pocus Max Dennison star Omri Katz 'not approached' for sequel but open to return

Hocus Pocus star Omri Katz, who played Max Dennison, has said that he has not yet been asked to appear in the upcoming sequel to the 1993 Halloween Disney film.

He told American news website TMZ that he hasn’t heard anything on the phone about reprising his role in the sequel, but said “If they asked me to return, I’d be honoured and be grateful, I think it would be a lot of fun. I think it would be good for the fans.”

Omri played teenager Max Dennison, who after moving to the town of Salem with his little sister Dannii, accidentally brings the legendary Sanderson Sisters back to life by lighting the Black Flame Candle.

Along with Dannii, love interest Alison and new friend Binx, a Salem resident who was turned into a cat by the Sanderson Sisters, they try to stop the witches before it is too late for the children of the town.

The film starred Hollywood icons Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Sanderson Sisters, and all three cast members have confirmed that they will be appearing in the sequel.

Production has already begun on Hocus Pocus 2, which will air on the streaming service Disney+ in Autumn 2022.

However, it has not been confirmed if other actors including Thora Birch, who played Dannii, and Vanessa Shaw, who played Alison, will be returning to reprise their roles from the original film.

Omri told TMZ that he regularly talks to his fellow Hocus Pocus cast members, especially at Halloween when interest in the film increases, saying “in terms of other cast members like Vanessa and Thora, we talk and we get together once in while.”

The actor attends conventions where he meets fans of the films, who often tell him that they grew up with the film and that now, their children are growing up with the film too.

“Who would have thought that 30 years down the road, that it’s just carrying on generationally,” said Omri.

“Nobody would have expected it to like, carry on this long and become this like Halloween iconic movie.”
