Hollyoaks fans go wild as Brooke mentions rival soap Doctors in Ripley scene

Hollyoaks fans were sent into meltdown during the latest visit to Chester as Brooke Hathaway (Tylan Grant) mentioned a rival soap opera with talking with pal Ripley Lennox (Ki Griffin).

The biggest serial dramas in Britain have agreed to reference each other as part of a joint mission to raise awareness of climate change.

Riley and Brooke got chatting about Daniel Granger, one of the longest-serving characters on BBC One daytime soap Doctors, during Monday’s first-look episode on E4.

Brooke tried to give Ripley some inspiration to persist with plans for a sustainable fashion show at the local market.

As Ripley was close to giving up, Brooke showed them a picture of Dr Daniel.

Another added: “#Hollyoaks talking about #Doctors I LOVE IT!.”

A third person posted: “#Doctors mention in #Hollyoaks #UKSoapCrossover.”

After hearing about Daniel’s efforts, Cindy Cunningham (Steph Waring) joked: “Well, I do have a thing for doctors…”

It was announced earlier this month that Britain’s favourite soaps would join forces in a bid to raise awareness of climate change.

Casualty, Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale, Holby City and Hollyoaks have all filmed scenes that include characters from other soaps, or references to their storylines in order to mark the monumental COPP26 conference in aid of climate change.

The unprecedented event will see a Hollyoaks villager pop up in Walford while Holby City’s storyline seeps into the conversation of those involved in the Chester soap.

Meanwhile, a viral social media video featuring two of Emmerdale’s residents will be shown to Corrie characters.

The idea for the crossover come from Emmerdale’s Executive Producer, Jane Hudson.

She said: “Never before have all five soaps and both continuing dramas come together and united in telling one story. And we certainly haven’t seen characters pop up in other shows before.

“This is a real treat for our audience, whilst also allowing us to get across a very important message.

Kate Oates, Head of Continuing Drama, BBC Studios added: “I’m thrilled that our soaps and serial dramas have all come together to help highlight the issue of climate change amongst our millions of viewers.”

While Lucy Allan, Executive Producer, Hollyoaks said: “It has been great to work together on an engaging way to, hopefully, inspire conversations about issues that are so important.”

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first look episode on E4 at 7pm
