Good Morning Britain was left in chaos on Friday, as one pre-recorded segment went missing – leaving Kate Garraway insisting they “haven’t lost” the clip.
Jonathan Swain’s daughter Immie was first diagnosed with autism aged 15, and appeared on the show alongside her dad to raise awareness of the long waiting times for such a diagnosis.
Introducing the pair, Kate explained: “The impact of this late diagnosis, as Immie talked about at the time, can be devastating. And she’s been working hard to raise awareness of the condition, highlighting the state of the current waiting list crisis and challenging the government.”
Kate went on to introduce the segment itself, as she said: “But first, let’s have a look at her special report.”
She and co-presenter Ben Shephard, however, were left looking into the cameras as the report failed to materialise, and after an awkward silence Ben explained: “We’re trying to get that report in.”
Kate added: “Oh, okay! That report is there, we haven’t lost it, Immie, I promise you!”
Jonathan then quipped: “We did finish it, I’m sure, didn’t we?!”
Giggling, Ben said: “It’s short and sweet! Let’s see, is it going to work for us? Is the report going to roll?”
Thankfully, crew working behind the scenes finally managed to get the report on-air, as Immie explained the impact of her first visit to the GMB studios, which had ignited the conversation around late diagnosis in the first place.
And fans were quickly distracted from the technical error as they heard Immie speak about what she had been through, with one fan tweeting: “Well done Immie, you should be so proud of yourself! Thank you for raising awareness. More services are needed so children have support as early as possible.”
“Immie you are great, please keep fighting and talking!” someone else urged.
As a third fan echoed: “I am sure Immie is helping so many people. I am so happy to learn she has brought this to everyone’s attention through her own experiences.”
And it wasn’t the only technical blunder of the morning, either, as weather presenter Laura Tobin’s report was interrupted by loud Diwali revellers.
In the studio, Kate joked that she only needs to see graphics to accompany Laura’s report if they’re struggling to hear the weather, as she quipped: “I don’t need to hear it, I just need to see it!”
Viewers weren’t quite as forgiving, however, as one posted on social media: “Whose idea was it to have Laura do the weather in a temple during Diwali? All I heard was the banging of drums and shaking of tambourines!” with a row of laughing emojis.
Someone else suggested: “We don’t *have* to send Laura to noisy places. Could always do the weather from the studio?”
“Crikey, how did Laura keep going?” another fan wondered.
Good Morning Britain airs from 6am weekdays on ITV.
