Dan Walker lifts lid on Strictly WhatsApp group – and some stars have left already

Strictly’s Dan Walker has lifted the lid on the celebrities’ WhatsApp group.

Some disgruntled stars have already quit the private account.

There are photos on it that will “never see the light of day”.

And many use it as therapy as pressure in the contest mounts.

BBC presenter Dan launched the Whatsapp group for all 15 celebrities on the show back in August – once the line-up had been revealed.

They are a real clique as the messages and pictures exchanged are kept top secret.

However he gave Daily Star an insight into their private world.

Dan has admitted – without naming names – that some stars who have been booted off the BBC One show have quit the account.

He said: “We started off with all 15. Most who have left (the show) have stayed in the group.”

When pressed for more details, he teased: “I can tell you nothing!”

Speculation will mount that ex EastEnder Nina Wadia, who was fuming to be first out, and comedian Robert Webb, who left the show on health grounds, are possibly among the quitters.

Dan has confessed that some celebrities have posted some surprising images for everyone to see.

He laughed: “There are pictures on there that will never see the light of day.”

But he reckons most use the Whatsapp group as therapy.

The TV star – who is partnered with Nadiya Bychkova – explained: “We talk about anything from jam to jive.

“As the weeks have gone on, people talk about their injuries, painful knees, what their dance partner has tried to make them do, how exhausted they are.

“It’s a fun group and a good release for people at the end of the day.”

It comes after Dan hit back at critics who think he shouldn’t still be in the competition.

Taking to Instagram, he penned: “”We are incredibly thankful for all the support and it’s a true privilege to be a small part of the biggest show on the telly.”

“When I’ve watched Strictly in the past I have always liked seeing great dancers but also those who learn to love it and are working hard to improve every week. It’s a TV show and not the world championships.”

“Whoever you vote for this weekend… I hope you enjoy the show. I will continue to do it with a massive smile on my face.”
