Emmerdale Ben's life away from soap from Michelle Keegan connection to soap star split

Emmerdale star Simon Lennon is best known for his role as Ben Tucker in the ITV soap.

He joined the cast in September last year after starring in BBC drama Our Girl with Michelle Keegan, Grantchester and Bridgerton.

But now after just over a year with the show, it seems he could be heading for a dramatic exit as his character Ben’s turbulent relationship with Danny Miller’s Aaron DIngle comes to a head.

While viewers know his character on screen quite well, viewers don’t tend to know Simon Lennon quite as well – so Daily Star has looked into his life to give our readers a bit more of an insight into the character’s life.

Soap Star Ex

Simon, 27, famously dated Coronation Street star Sair Khan for almost two years between December 2017 to September 2019.

The couple met when they attended a gala at Buckingham Palace and enjoyed sharing snaps of their relationship with fans on social media – especially during her 2018 stint in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

Talking about their relationship in the past she said: “We met at Buckingham Palace. We were both members of the National Youth Theatre and they have a big gala to celebrate their 60th anniversary.

“A load of ex-members were invited to that evening at Buckingham Palace, so we met through a mutual friend that he’s in Our Girl with. Sadly, the Queen wasn’t there.”

The pair eventually split due to work commitments as Sair took on a new reality TV challenge on Sink Or Swim.

At the time a source told The Sun: “Sair has found the challenge of learning to swim from scratch really tough.

“Training has been more difficult than she expected and it has really taken its toll on her emotionally and pushed her relationship to breaking point.”

Simon – who is thought to be single – always wanted to be an actor and joined the National Youth Theatre as a child and has also appeared in numerous stage productions in his career before heading to the Dales.

In his personal time, he loves football and has used his on-field skills to raise money for charity on several occasions.

Starring as Brains in Our Girl for four years gave Simon the opportunity to form a friendship with former soap star Michelle Keegan.

The actress then handed down some of her in-depth expertise on life in soapland to her co-star as he joined Emmerdale.

Fellow Our Girl star and Coronation Street alumni Sean Ward also gave him some words of wisdom on the move.

He praised the cast for being so friendly

When asked what advice they had given him Simon admitted feeling in awe of Michelle’s seven-year stint as Corries Tina McIntyre.

He said: “They both said to just enjoy it and have a great time. Our Girl was my first professional gig. Michelle was so involved in Corrie for years and she was such a huge character.

“I think that’s the lovely thing about shows like Emmerdale and Coronation Street, everyone speaks so highly of working on them.”

He also confessed that he felt part of the family immediately when he did join Emmerdale because everyone was so friendly.

He added: “I genuinely felt from the moment I arrived on my first day to film in the village that I was part of the Emmerdale family. I was nervous. I kept going the wrong way on the one-way system, but every single person I came across was so welcoming.”
