Richard Madeley is the latest star to be confirmed in the lineup of the latest series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
The 65-year-old broadcaster and one half of the Richard and Judy duo had been rumoured to be taking part for months and now happily, we know it to be true!
Richard, fairly well known for his on-air gaffes and blunders, is set to be TV gold in the camp and has already confirmed that he doesn’t care what people think of him.
Speaking ahead of the show’s debut, he said: “I certainly don’t worry about what people think.
“If you are in the public eye and you start worrying about how people will see you, you end up going mad!”
The dad-of-one also said that because he grew up on a farm in Shropshire he is not fazed by things like rats and creepy crawlies – but he is scared of heights and is apprehensive about the route into the castle.
Richard said: “Maybe I will have to walk a plank over a 150-foot open space. I am not looking forward to that at all and I know my head could say ‘do it’ and my body could freeze!”
He conceded too that in order to be a success on I’m A Celeb you “can’t take yourself remotely seriously” and he is going into the show expecting to have a “bloody great romp of fun”.
Richard also said he hopes that he gets voted in for the trials so he can get stuck into the show.
When asked about what he will miss the most about the outside world, Richard said it would be not knowing what is going on in the news.
He explained: “I am a total news junkie and whereas others will be worrying about withdrawing from caffeine, my withdrawal symptoms are going to be about not knowing what the hell is going on!
“I feel I will be a bit jumpy at first.”
A popular TV star, Richard says many of his friends have taken part in the show over the years as well as his son-in-law, James Haskell.
“James hasn’t given me any advice because as he pointed out, it would be useless!” said Richard.
“It will be a different camp and I plan to just take each day as it comes.”
As for whether Richard wants to win I’m A Celebrity, he says his only wish is that he doesn’t get voted out first.
“But that’s because I want to experience everything,” he explained.
Finally when quizzed about who would be his “dream camper”, Richard said: “The late Jimmy Greaves. I would have loved to chat about goal scoring in the Castle with him.”
