Emmerdale fans have been left fuming over the soap’s apparent bad treatment of Danny Miller and his character Aaron Dingle.
Danny, 30, announced his decision to quit the ITV soap this week after it was confirmed he’d be heading into the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! castle.
But his dedicated fans have complained that it’s not surprising he’s quit Emmerdale, and have slammed the drama.
A Danny fan page said: “Emmerdale haven’t been using Aaron to his full potential for a long time and have been wasting the character certainly since Robert left. He has long deserved better. So it may be a good time for him to bow out. Danny has made Aaron an iconic character. He will be missed.”
Another Twitter user said: “Danny gave everything to Emmerdale! He protected Emmerdale. The people I know watch Emmerdale only because of him. And they couldn’t give Aaron a memorable exit with Robron like they did with Ryan [Hawley].
“I am never forgiving these producers for destroying our Aaron.”
A third wrote: “I am not surprised Danny has left Emmerdale. He’s barely had any storylines for months – since Robert left it just hasn’t been the same. I feel like the writers don’t know what to do with Aaron. Plus as soon as I heard Danny had become a dad I guessed it wouldn’t be long before he left.”
And someone else theorised the exit had been planned for a while, after noticing there had seemed to be a change in character relationships.
They wrote: “Sad Danny is leaving Emmerdale but not surprised. They just didn’t know what to do with Aaron after Robert left.
“Now it makes sense that the Aaron/Mackenzie scenes stopped and went onto Charity.
“Aaron/Mack could have been very interesting and good for Emmerdale.”
Danny has been on Emmerdale for 13 years, but after becoming a dad and signing up to I’m A Celeb, he’s taking on new challenges.
He said ahead of entering the castle: “I’ve actually left Emmerdale, I unfortunately decided to start a new path in life.
“I’ve got my baby now and I’m [getting] married next year, it felt like the right time to open a new chapter in my life. I’m very, very emotional about it actually, it’s been a massive part of my life.”
He added: “I’ve wanted to spread my wings for a while and a show like this can give me the opportunity to see what else happens after it. [I can] start a new life with my family and see what happens.”
Meanwhile, actress Elizabeth Estensen also recently left Emmerdale after making the decision to retire.
She had played Diane Sugden for a whopping 22 years.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode Thursdays at 8pm, on ITV
