Nick Knowles was replaced on his home makeover programme DIY SOS by comedian Rhod Gilbert after breaking BBC rules.
Keen fans of the show may have found themselves scratching their heads over why the show presented by a very different face this week, as I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Nick was absent for the first time in 22 years.
He has hosted DIY SOS since 1999.
Instead, Rhod Gilbert was at the helm for The Big Build Children In Need special.
It comes after Nick, 59, broke the BBC’s editorial guidelines earlier this year after he appeared in a Shreddies advert.
He appeared as a builder on the TV ad, but BBC rules state that actors and artists are banned from appearing in promotional work “in a way which mimics or replicates their on-air roles for the BBC”.

The DIY SOS team members couldn’t resist bringing Nick up during the programme, as they quipped they were a “man down” while driving a minivan to their Hull-based project.
Carpenter Mark Millar didn’t hold back as he responded: “That’s not really a problem though, is it?
“All we need to do is find an old boy with a scruffy beard who knows absolutely nothing about building and we’re laughing.”
Fans will be pleased to hear that Nick will be returning to the show in 2022, after resolving his issues with the BBC.
In a joint statement, Nick and the broadcaster said: “Both Nick and the BBC have resolved the issue recently reported relating to Nick’s commercial agreements and BBC guidelines.
“With the campaign still running, Nick will step back from the DIY SOS Children In Need special this year but will be back on our screens in 2022.”

The broadcaster explained in a separate statement that Nick “is an important member of the BBC family” – so it doesn’t look like he’ll be straying far from his role.
And there were no hard feelings between Nick and Rhod, as he tweeted out in support of his hosting gig, writing: “Rhod is a lovely chap, was properly emotionally engaged, did a great job and it really is about the kids and raising funds for @BBCCiN.
“I appreciate people being loyal to me but I really urge you all to support this build and Rhod and donate if you can. [Thank you] x”.
He added: “[Thank you] to all the tradesmen, volunteers & importantly the suppliers that made @BBCCiN @DIYSOS possible & thank Rhod Gilbert for doing such a top job & being so emotionally engaged @DiysosBilly @chrisandjules @Bonjourmillar also director Matt Skilton & team – credit to all involved.”
